Uruguayan art dealer Jorge Castillo passed away this morning.

Jorge Castillo was formed in Art History with professors Julio Payró and Jorge Romero Brest.  He was an art dealer since he was 23 years old before he found his renowned art gallery – Galería Sur - in 1985. It has been one of the biggest promoters of Uruguayan painting abroad.

With a trajectory over 30 years, Galería Sur specializes in avant-garde movements of the Rio de la Plata, featuring the works of masters and contemporary artists such as Joaquin Torres Garcia, Antonio Berni, Pedro Figari, and José Gurvich among many others. The gallery currently participates in the most important art fairs of the world.
