OPEN CALL: LOOKNG FORWARD TO THE FIFTH EDITION OF THE SMArt RESIDENCE

The Center of the Image (Peru) and the Fondation pour le Développement Durable des Régions de Montagne (Switzerland) merge once again and open the call for the fifth edition of the SMArt residence in Switzerland. Susteinable Mountain Art (SMArt), is an initiative that promotes awareness regarding mountain regions and their problems through art.

Climate change; management, sources, and use of water as a resource; migratory crises and food security are some of the threats that these geographies and the communities that live in them currently suffer. From these needs SMArt emerges. Addressing these problems as a thematic axis for artists, the residence aims to clarify these scenarios towards the media agenda and public opinion, conceiving the forms of artistic expression as the ideal means for awareness.

A particularity about the residence is that its focus is located, mainly, in the mountainous areas of Peru (in the Cordillera de los Andés) and in Switzerland (mountain range of the Alps). In addition, the project seeks to promote cultural exchange and dialogue between artists and their audience around the global and local challenges of the regions affected by the new ecological, economic and geopolitical context.

For those artists who are interested in participating in the fifth SMArt residence, registration is open until April 30. The works produced by the artist that are selected will be displayed as part of the awareness campaigns undertaken by the Fondation pour le Développement Durable des Régions de Montagne with the support of the Center for the Image.
